The Alabama Crimson Tide held the official remembrance services for an employee of the Department of Athletics, Mary Maruggi, who died in July. Among those who paid respects to Maruggi are Terrion Arnold and Malachi Moore.
Moore and Arnold shared their tribute on Instagram.
"Thanks for everything, Mary," Arnold wrote on Instagram.
Mary Maruggi was an academic advisor who had worked for over 10 years in college athletics. Maruggi was hired by the University of Alabama in 2020 and has worked specifically with the school's football and golf programs. She previously worked for Kent State University and the University of Minnesota. She earned her Master's Degree in Education at Kent State University in 2016.
The school held the memorial service at Sewell Thomas Stadium.
Alabama's Athletic Director Greg Byrne's statement regarding Mary Maruggi
In July, the University of Alabama's Athletic Director, Greg Byrne, released a statement after Mary Maruggi's death.
"Mary was an incredible colleague who had a great impact on many of us within the department, but especially with the student-athletes she served," Byrne said. "Mary built exceptional relationships with her student-athletes, staff and coaches throughout her career. We will all miss her more than words can express."
The brief press statement from the school also added that the official wake was held in St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 19. It was announced that there would be a remembrance service at Tuscaloosa later in the year, which happened this week.
Alabama will start its season on August 31 against Western Kentucky. The game will be played at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
