Ashton Jeanty is anticipated to be a coveted pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The running back has been putting out impressive numbers this season and is chasing the single-season NCAA record of 2,628 yards, set by Barry Sanders in 1988.
In a livestream on Tuesday, Jeanty discussed his draft potential and NFL landing spot. The Boise State standout was asked about his feelings about getting drafted by the Arizona Cardinals next April. He entertained the idea of playing for the team, trolling himself in the process.
“I can get down with Kyler [Murray],” Jeanty said in a livestream. “We are going to be the shortest backfield in the NFL.”
His comment about playing for the Cardinals has got a lot of fans talking. Many believe he will be a good fit for the team. Here's a look at some of the reactions online:
Ashton Jeanty names his dream NFL team
With the draft system, there are little chances of players getting to play for their dream team in the NFL. However, this hasn't stopped players from dreaming to play at certain franchises.
For Ashton Jeanty, the dream destination in the NFL is his hometown team, the Dallas Cowboys. In his recent appearance on the “Kickin’ it With Dee” podcast, the running back was asked about the potential of getting drafted by the Cowboys.
“If I can script it,” Jeanty said. “My family’s all in Texas. Family being there, all of the connections, all of the relationships, I just feel that would be the perfect city to play in.”
Recent mock drafts have projected the Cowboys to draft Jeanty as the No. 11 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. It remains to be seen where the Cowboys fall in the draft and how high the running back goes.
Ashton Jeanty's coach backs him to win the Heisman Trophy
The 2024 college football regular season is drawing closer to an end and the Heisman Trophy race remains tight. With his performance so far this season Ashton Jeanty continues to remain among the frontrunners. His coach Spencer Danielson believes he should win it.
“Ashton Jeanty is the best football player in the country,” Danielson said on Nov. 7 in the PFF College Football Show.“...I tell people all the time, just watch the film … Watch what he does when he's not getting the ball and he's one of our best pass protectors. He'll come up to the line of scrimmage and stone any linebacker that's blitzing.”
“That's my pitch, watch the film. And I promise you if you truly watch the film, you'll put him as the Heisman, I believe that. Watch the film, and don't let anybody else tell you what to think.”
Jeanty is in the race for the coveted award with the likes of Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami quarterback Cam Ward. It remains to be seen who earns the honor in New York this December.
