Cormani McClain, a former five-star cornerback from Colorado, is making headlines as he enters the transfer portal. He announced this decision on Tuesday. McClain had a less-than-stellar season with the Buffaloes, prompting him to seek new opportunities elsewhere.

Recently, on the “Late Kick with Josh Pate” podcast, host Josh Pate made some interesting remarks regarding McClain’s potential landing spot. Pate named the AAC as a destination for the former five-star cornerback, referring to it as a "grand slam."

Pate discussed how McClain almost landed in Miami but ultimately went to Colorado as one of coach Deion Sanders' big gets. However, it was reported that Sanders criticized McClain's work ethic and preparation last year, which may have played a role in his decision to transfer.

Despite this criticism, McClain is still considered one of the top available players in the transfer portal. While USC has been mentioned as a potential landing spot, Pate believes that if McClain wants to stay closer to home, USF could be a strong contender.

“USF, though, could be a very interesting landing spot…I mean, that would be, I know our buddy Cole Cubelic doesn't like this language, that could be a grand slam [for the program],” Pate said.

DeMarcus Van Dyke, who was involved in recruiting McClain during his time in Miami, is now with Alex Golesh & Co at USF, potentially making it a favorable landing spot for Cormani McClain.

Colorado transfer Cormani McClain's possible landing spots

There are some rumors that the Alabama Crimson Tide may still be in the market for some top talent. They were interested in Cormani McClain when he was in high school, and it is possible that under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, they could be interested in him again.

With Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold heading to the NFL draft, the program may be on the lookout for some replacements. Jahlil Hurley and incoming freshman Jaylen Mbakwe are both talented options, but adding another highly skilled recruit would be a positive move.

Secondary landing spot: Reportedly, Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones are NFL-bound from Florida State Seminoles, while Fentrell Cypress II and Azareye’h Thomas stay. Earl Little Jr.'s joining bolsters the team. With their cornerback depth, McClain could thrive with ample playing chances.

Despite a sluggish beginning as a freshman, McClain emerged, featuring in nine games and starting four, notably shining against USC. He tallied 13 tackles, including one for loss, and two pass breakups. Notably, Cormani McClain is the 10th Colorado player to enter the transfer portal.
