Former Alabama star Nick Saban backed Deion Sanders' ideology of always being committed to practice irrespective of the outcome. Saban was the same during his 17-season stint with the Crimson Tide. And it was this dedication that helped him win six national championships in Tuscaloosa.

Last week, Nick Saban appeared on the Pat McAfee show, talking about the importance of practice and continuing to have the players on top of their game. Saban talked about how things could take a turn for the worse if a team neglects practice following a victory on the gridiron. He labeled it the "kiss of death."

"You are trying to change the mindset of how everybody's approaching preparation for the game," Saban said. "It's the same thing I said before, Coach Prime situation. Play poorly and win. That is like the kiss of death. Because guys don't always want to respond."
"They look at you like, 'hey coach we won the game, why are you all upset making us practice,' and all that. But if you lose they are saying, 'When are we gonna practice.' Really great competitors they always keep that same mindset. Because they want to be the best that they can be so it's not about winning or losing. It's about how good can I be."

After their disappointing loss to Nebraska in Week 2, Coach Prime and the Buffs have won the last three games. In week 5, they emerged victorious (48-21) against the UCF Knights. If Colorado wants to go on to be a potential underdog contender for the playoffs and not just the bowl games, then they will have to maintain this consistency.

Nick Saban shares his thoughts on Matthew Sluka's redshirt decision

Quarterback Matthew Sluka decided to part ways with the UNLV Rebels after three games this season. Sluka has decided to redshirt after not receiving the promised $100,000 NIL compensation, which led him to transfer from Holy Cross last winter.

On the Pat McAfee show, Nick Saban shared his two cents on the situation. He questioned the reason behind Sluka's decision and how having a regulated NIL space is important within college athletics.

"The way we are right now everybody's a consistent free agent," Saban said. "You don't have any contract, you don't have any responsibility or obligation to your team."
"I don't know the player at UNLV that's opting out, what kind of value is he really creating for his future, based on what he's doing. I don't know that he really is."

While Nick Saban may not be a college football coach anymore, he continues to add value to it. And according to him, having a regulated NIL space could be the solution to a lot of problems emerging in the modern college football era.
