Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders has come forward to clarify his "rookie mistake" comments following their Week 2 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Shedeur decided to forego the 2024 NFL draft and play one more season of college football before going pro.

After a season-opening victory against ND State, the Buffs hit a roadblock and suffered their first defeat of the season. In a video posted on social media by Overtime on Wednesday, Sanders came forward to clear the air surrounding his comments in the post-game press conference.

Sanders said that he did not try to blame his team for the loss. He further went on to clarify how it was his fault for allowing his comments to be misinterpreted:

"I mean I can understand you know, and that's definitely my fault for even giving room for them to be able to play tricks and words, you know. I think they just took it and ran with it whatever way they wanted to. You know what would probably get them the most clicks or whatever," Sanders said.
"I remember saying that was a 'rookie mistake'. I didn't say the rookie made a mistake. I'm saying that's a rookie mistake like that's childish I should have never done that. But I'm not gonna go on social media and go argue with them fans about that. Like that's just what it is.
"So I have and am thankful to have a platform where I'm able to really express and say what was actually said rather than people just making up stories and just doing anything to divide the team. But I put that on myself also because it's like I gave them room to where I could understand where they took it like that. But that wasn't the intention though," he added.

During the game against Nebraska, Shedeur Sanders was sacked five times and threw one interception. He tallied a total of 244 passing yards and one TD pass in that game. But the Cornhuskers proved to be the better team and emerged victorious against "Coach Prime" and the Buffs.

What did Shedeur Sanders say after Week 2 loss against Nebraska?

In the post-game press conference, Sanders was questioned about the pick-six he threw in the first half during their 28-10 loss to the Cornhuskers. Sanders said it was a rookie mistake to make a pass like that and all they can do now is learn from the experience and improve on their game as the season continues:

"It was just a rookie mistake, honestly. That's what it was. So, it's small things like that that kind of like, things that just can't happen truthfully, but that stuff happened. So, we've got to bounce back from it and learn from that situation and just be ready for it," Sanders said.

Many people perceived his comments as throwing shade on freshman WR Drelon Miller. The intercepted pass from Shedeur was aimed towards Miller.

The Colorado Buffaloes face the Colorado State Rams next in Week 3. Can Coach Prime's team recuperate and secure their second win of the season?
