Georgia QB Carson Beck has not been consistent with his performances this season. He was named as the Bulldogs' starting quarterback last season. However, this year, Beck has managed to put up 2,835 yards and 19 passing touchdowns in 10 games while leading Georgia to an 8-2 record.
Despite his inconsistency, head coach Kirby Smart has the utmost confidence in Beck's skills and talents. He has refused to make changes in the QB position and continued supporting Beck throughout his rollercoaster of a campaign.
During an interview with Fox 5 Atlanta, Beck expressed his gratitude to Smart for his constant support. He said that both of them share a very strong bond and he considers Smart as one of the best coaches in college football history.
"Its awesome, truly," Carson Beck said. "I really don't know how to explain how that feels. But after that Florida game, obviously like, I didn't perform the way I wanted to. I probably had like three bad plays... but no I thought like I played really well but those three mistakes obviously I'm like I'm down in myself..."
"After the game, he (Kirby Smart) stands up in front of the whole team and like gives like a whole speech saying.... just kind of talking about me. For him to do that and stand up in front of the team and have my back in that moment and obviously he's had my back in front of the media, that's huge for me. That's Kirby Smart... It means a lot to me. It makes me want to play hard for him."
The Georgia Bulldogs find themselves in an interesting place in the race for a spot in the new 12-team playoffs. During their week 12 victory over Tennessee, Carson Beck tallied 347 yards and two touchdowns passing. If the Bulldogs want to compete for the conference title and the playoffs, then Beck will have to maintain this consistency in the last two games of the regular season.
CFB analyst praises Carson Beck after Tennessee victory
College football analyst Brian Jones was left smiling after Georgia's victory over the Tennessee Volunteers last week. He went on to praise Carson Beck, stating that the quarterback managed to silence all his critics with his performance.
Jones stated that the way the Bulldogs won in week 12 was something that should be the standard of the program in the Kirby Smart era.
"They (Georgia) fell behind, 10 nothing deficit there I understand. But then it was all Georgia," Jones said. "They dominated. It was the expected performance that we've become accustomed to seeing in the Kirby Smart era and Carson Beck silenced everyone. Threw two, ran for another touchdown, big plays escaping pressure and that defense was phenomenal."
Kirby Smart and his team are next scheduled to take on UMass. They finish their regular season campaign with a game against Georgia Tech.
