Since the beginning of the fall camp, Dylan Raiola has been likened to Patrick Mahomes. The Nebraska quarterback looks to be imitating the moves of the reigning Super Bowl MVP on the gridiron as he begins his college football career.
With the frenzy of Raiola modeling his style and mannerisms after Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has expressed his support for the true freshman. Having once been in the position of emulating others himself, Mahomes embraces the idea of young athletes drawing inspiration from him.
Dylan Raiola expressed his appreciation for Patrick Mahomes' support. In his Instagram story on Wednesday, the former five-star recruit posted a video of Mahomes ringing words of support and captioned it with:
“That’s love big cuzzo”
What Patrick Mahomes said about Dylan Raiola’s imitation
In his press conference session ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Patrick Mahomes answered a question on Dylan Raiola seemingly imitating his playing style. The Chiefs signal caller offered his full support for the Nebraska true freshman.
"It's cool, honestly,'' Mahomes said of Raiola's imitation. "I was that guy. I grew up watching players. I remember when I would grow up, I loved Alex Rodriguez playing shortstop and I tried to make plays just like him and do stuff like that, and it helped me become the athlete that I am.”
"I know Dylan, I trained with him in the offseason. Great kid, a great football player, and I think he's going to make his own stamp on the game. And I think you've seen that early in his career.''
Mahomes undoubtedly values the respect Raiola has shown to him. However, he can't help but feel a bit old knowing that players are already looking up to him as a role model.
Patrick Mahomes commends Dylan Raiola’s commitment
Two games into the 2024 college football season, Dylan Raiola has already impressed many with his performance for Nebraska. Patrick Mahomes gave commendation to his commitment to the game, which is paying off.
“Whenever you come in as a freshman, you want to be on Twitter and be part of the team. I think he wants it to be about his team,” Mahomes said. “And I think that’s the right way to play the quarterback position.”
“It’s not about you. It’s about going out there, having success as a team and they’ve done that so far this year. So even though I think he just kind of wants to go out and play football, and go out there and win football games, that’s the right way to play the position.”
The Cornhuskers have opened the 2024 season on a brilliant note, securing a win in both of their two games so far. Raiola’s presence has made the program's offense more electric, and many anticipate seeing what they can achieve.
