It has been a mixed season for Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams who started the season in good form, culminating in a stellar performance against the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 5 of college football action. Since then, the Crimson Tide and their explosive wide receiver have seemingly lost their way, dropping two games to the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Tennessee Volunteers.

It wasn't the first time that Ryan Williams painting his nails has caused a furor among fans. He once explained during a news conference that his younger sister painted his nails for him and that he supported her fully.

Alabama coach defends Ryan Williams

Ryan Williams is second in receiving yards (649 yards) in the Southeastern Conference and is the most targeted Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver. He has 31 receptions and seven touchdowns. In the Week 8 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers, fans and analysts remarked on the fact that Bama quarterback Jalen Milroe seemed to be forcing the ball to Williams rather than other open options.

During his weekly news conference, Alabama wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard was adamant that the under-fire Jalen Milroe was not forcing the ball to Williams over other targets.

"I think that we distributed the ball to where it should’ve been going all week long, all throughout the game," Shephard said. "That’s where the ball should’ve been going. If it was supposed to go somewhere else, it would’ve went somewhere else."

"That’s not us designing every play to try to get the ball to one single person. If that’s where the ball’s supposed to go, that’s where it went. I think our guys did a good job of making sure the ball went where it was supposed to go.”

In the Tennessee game, Germie Bernard and Kendrick Williams were also the targets of Milroe's passes, although Williams was targeted 18 times, the most of any game this season.

The manner in which Ryan Williams announced himself to the college football world and the attention that the Alabama Crimson Tide garners means that the young wide receiver will likely be under the spotlight for every decision that he makes.
