Colorado coach Deion Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, ended a stellar season 9-4 after losing 36-14 to the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl. The game also marked the last time he would coach his NFL-bound stars, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and the Heisman-winning Travis Hunter.

The Buffs coach moved quickly to replace Shedeur by convincing four-star quarterback Julian Lewis to flip his commitment from the USC Trojans to Colorado. In addition, he also recruited Liberty Flames quarterback Kaidon Salter via the transfer portal to further bolster his quarterback room for next season.

During a Saturday interview on "WFAA," Salter revealed why he chose to join the Buffaloes from the Flames, highlighting the appeal that Colorado commands in college football since Sanders arrived in Boulder in 2022.

"With me just having the last year to experience the project that I have," Kaidon Salter said. "It's me liking to play under the spotlight. Colorado has the spotlight throughout college football, they are the most viewed team, the most hated team and it's just me liking that and bringing that in and taking that in. I'm very excited for my new journey and just being part of that team."
"Playing behind coach Deion and playing behind coach Pat Shurmur is just something that you can't not wanna accept and not wanna be a part of and just the experience that the whole coaching team has from all of the past NFL experience that they have from Deion being a Hall of Famer and just all of that is something that I looked into and of course the marketing and the other things that they bring to the table."

Coach Prime likened to Shedeur's replacement

During the WFAA interview on Saturday, Misty Salter, Kaidon Salter's mother, likened her son's temperament to the charismatic Coach Prime during his playing days. She also drew parallels between the quarterback and Shedeur Sanders.

“It was more… personalities. I feel like Kaidon and Deion, they have the same type of energy. Their personalities are [the same] to me, when it comes to the confidence [and] the excitement they have when they’re on the field… the 1990’s Deion for the Cowboys. That’s Kaidon. Same thing with Shedeur [Sanders]. That confident smile [is] Kaidon. So I feel like [he’ll] fit in perfectly. “

The connection between the Salter family and Coach Prime does not end there, as the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback's younger brother plays in a 10-U program sponsored by the Buffs coach.
