There are a lot of expectations for the four teams in the College Football Playoff semifinals to go and win the national championship, but arguably none are higher than the Ohio State Buckeyes. After losing "The Game" against the Michigan Wolverines to end the regular season, the Buckeyes won 42-17 over the Tennessee Volunteers in the first round of the CFP and 41-21 over the No. 1 Oregon Ducks in the quarterfinals.
On Thursday's edition of "First Take," ESPN Analyst Dan Orlovsky discussed how he feels that Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are the best program in college football right now.
"I would say the pressure is even higher becuase they are clearly the best team in college football... I'm not calling for Ryan Day to get fired at all. The reason why the noise was so loud after the Michigan loss was because everyone knew how good of a team they were."
The Ohio State Buckeyes are getting ready for the Cotton Bowl next Friday as they will be taking on the Texas Longhorns in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
What are the College Football Playoff odds after the quarterfinals?
The College Football Playoff is down to just four teams to crown the national champion. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, there is one program that is head and shoulders ahead of the rest as below are the odds to win the national championship.
- Ohio State Buckeyes (+110)
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+360)
- Texas Longhorns (+380)
- Penn State Nittany Lions (+475)
With the oddsmakers believing heavily in the Buckeyes to win it all, it makes a lot of sense as the other three teams have significant question marks. The Longhorns almost didn't even make it past Arizona State as they allowed 16 points in the fourth quarter to allow the game to go into overtime.
For the Fighting Irish, they were not able to get much offense going in their quarterfinal matchup. For the Nittany Lions, they have not faced off against much competition and this upcoming game is their first real test.
When looking at the Buckeyes, they have overcome the best team in the country and completely dominated them from the beginning. They are in the best position to win the national championship this season.
