Texas isn't a better team than Ohio State, according to Joel Klatt. The College Football Playoff is almost upon us, and we already know the 12 schools that will participate in this extended version of the postseason tournament.
As always, there has been a lot of discussion regarding whether the selection committee got it right, with some agreeing and others not.
One of those who disagree with some of the pics by the committee is Fox Sports Joel Klatt. He doesn't agree with Ohio State coming in behind No. 5 Texas, No. 6 Penn State and No. 7 Notre Dame. According to him, No. 8 Ohio State is a better team than all of them.
In Tuesday's episode of the Joel Klatt Show, he highlighted the fact that the Buckeyes had beaten the Nittany Lions, beaten No. 10 Indiana and lost to No. 1 Oregon on the road by only one point, to bolster his argument that Ohio State deserves to be a higher seed.
He also dismissed the loss to Michigan in the final game of the regular season as a fluke.
"By resume the seeding is wrong, and if you're going by best, best teams, the seeding is wrong"
Klatt also pointed out that Texas seems to be getting the benefit of the doubt, as they have no wins against currently ranked top 25 schools. He implied that they were being favored just because they played Georgia in the SEC championship. He also said that Ohio State had the best resume out of all those teams.
Eventually, it seems the committee is prioritizing the best records over the best resumes. Texas managed 11 wins, while Ohio State had 10.
Who does Ohio State play next? A brief look at the Buckeyes' opening postseason game
Ryan Day's Buckeyes will clash with the SEC's No. 9 Tennessee Volunteers on Dec. 21. The Vols also have a 10-2 record, with their defeats coming against unranked Arkansas and No. 2 Georgia.
These blue-blooded programs have faced each other just once, in 1996. On Jan. 1 that year, Tennessee beat Ohio State 20-13 in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.
This year, the game will be played at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. It's set to start at 8 p.m. ET and will be aired on ABC and ESPN.
