Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning believes he has the formula to win the Big Ten. Oregon is now a member of the Big Ten after leaving the decimated Pac-12 in college football realignment.

Last season, Oregon made it to the Pac-12 championship game and was a win away from making the college football playoff. However, the Ducks fell short as they lost twice to Washington. But entering the 2024 season, Lanning is confident about his team.

"I think winning football is winning football in terms of preparation, what you have to do to be successful, I think the biggest thing is getting familiar with the teams in the conference, right? You're going to spend more time studying the opponents that you're going to be playing that you haven't played in the past. So that's the piece that's probably different for us. I don't think that changes the approach to what's going to be successful in college football," Lanning said on The Joel Klatt Show.
"I think that the toughest team is going to win, I think the team that can make sure they're not being themselves is going to be successful on game day. So all the formulas for winning football still exist. But, what you have to get familiar with quick is, who are the people you're gonna be playing? And what are the tendencies that those teams have? How do they play to win? What does that look like for you and your team?"

Lanning will have his hands full in Oregon's first year in the Big Ten as the Ducks have notable games against Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Washington.

However, Lanning remains confident that Oregon has the formula to win games and compete for a national championship in 2024.

Dan Lanning expects the Big Ten to be more physical than the Pac-12

Entering his first year at the Big Ten, Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning believes the conference will be more bruising than the Pac-12. He also emphasized the need for consistency throughout the season.

"The reality of winning football when you're a team like Oregon and the position you want to put yourself at the end of the year, you've got to win in the trenches at the end of the year, not just in the middle of the year, ..." Lanning said at Big Ten media days, via Autenzoo. "A lot of people ask me, what's different about going to the Big Ten? I hear it's a lot more physical."

Oregon will open its 2024 season at home on August 31 against Idaho.
