Despite Deion Sanders' insistence on staying at Colorado, sportscaster Troy Aikman believes Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones can convince Sanders to leave Boulder.
"Coach Prime" just led the Buffs to one of their most successful seasons in recent history and rumors continue to link him to the NFL. Sanders and Akiman were teammates for the Cowboys, and the former star quarterback believes Sanders will be a brilliant coach for the team.
“I do know that Jerry, he’s a world-class marketer,” Aikman said. “Deion is obviously not far behind that, and I think if you were to put the two together, it would be quite interesting. I think there are some compelling reasons as to why Jerry might have an interest.
Aikman suggested what could help lure Sanders out of college football. He is convinced that if a couple of things are addressed, Sanders can be persuaded to join the NFL despite his steadfast commitment to Colorado.
“I do know that Deion’s done a great job there in Boulder, and when he says, ‘Hey, I’ve put the kickstand down,’ that’s simply alerting everyone that if you want him, you’re going to have to pay for it, which is not a surprise either," Aikmam said.
“I do think that Deion could be enticed, especially with his son moving on and going to the NFL. [Kickstands] are not welded to the ground; you can raise them.”
As the NFL offseason draws closer, Sanders’ future is expected to get much clearer as teams embark on coaching searches.
Deion Sanders insists on staying at Colorado
Sanders has been linked with a couple of NFL jobs over the months. Following a challenging 2023 season, he led Colorado to a 9-3 finish this year, showcasing his coaching prowess. The unexpected success has placed his future in doubt, especially since his sons are set to leave the program.
However, Sanders has continued to state his commitment to the Buffaloes. In his appearance on Tuesday's installment of the “Folsom Frenzy Podcast,” Sanders once again declared his future lies at Colorado, shunning potential NFL offers.
“I love where I am,” Sanders said. “I'm elated where I am. I'm happy where I am. I can't wait to see what the future beholds with where I am. And I love Boulder, Colorado.
“So I have every intention, every plan in the world, to be coaching for the Colorado Buffs from here on. I want to finish here. I want to put the flag – I want my name on the mountains out there. I want to put my flag down in Colorado.”
Sanders will see his sons and Travis Hunter make their way to the NFL. This is, however, not stopping him from continuing his coaching journey in Boulder.
