Deion Sanders led his Colorado team to an emphatic win on the road against UCF on Saturday. The Buffaloes entered the game as a big underdog but went on to secure a 48-21 victory. Despite the dominant win, media members still express doubt about the team’s ability.
In a pointed critique, ESPN's David Hale questioned Colorado's legitimacy as a true contender, employing a striking and colorful analogy to emphasize his doubts. Hale pointed out flaws in the team that are not associated with genuine championship contenders.
"The Buffaloes are basically what it would look like if Deion Sanders planned a bank heist by hiring a getaway driver in a Ferrari, dressing a bag man in a tuxedo and assuming the rest would work itself out," Hale wrote. "And somehow, it's all working out.
“The Buffs demolished UCF 48-21 behind three touchdowns from Shedeur Sanders and another do-it-all performance from Travis Hunter. Colorado doesn't run the ball, doesn't play great defense, doesn't protect the QB and is willing to cut 20 players to make room for DJ Khaled's entourage on the sideline.”
Deion Sanders’ son, Deion Jr., reacted to Hale's writeup after a fan posted on X. Not impressed by the ESPN analyst's opinion, the Well Off Media CEO wrote:
“These people be so weird dawg,” Deion Jr. wrote.
Deion Sanders on entering the UCF game as the underdog
Colorado entered the Big 12 as a 14-point point underdog. UCF, which held a perfect record going into the game, was largely expected to come out victorious. However, the Buffaloes secured a dominant victory in Orlando, Florida.
In his post-game press conference on Saturday, Deion Sanders reacted to the perception of many about his team in the college football world. His words further ignited the rift he has been having with media members over the past couple of weeks.
"We don't care about that, you all do,” Sanders said. “We are underdogs every week. Nobody wants to see us win, you know that, except for our fanbase. Nobody nationally wants to see us get down.
“That's just the nature of the game. We're not mad about it. We're not upset about it. We know who we are. We know how we get down. It's not like we come out talking that talk, but we don't really do that. You say we do that, but we really don't do it. Our kids are very humble."
Colorado enters its bye week with a lot of confidence, boasting a 4-1 record. It doesn't get easy for the Buffaloes after the break, though, as it will welcome Kansas State to town in Week 7 and will be on the road at Arizona in Week 8. These games will showcase Deion Sanders’ team real status in the Big 12.
