Colorado is working to secure the commitment of five-star quarterback Julian Lewis. The player made his commitment to USC last fall as he admired the prospect of playing under Lincoln Riley. However, Deion Sanders hopes to make him his next recruiting win.
Steve Wiltfong of On3 gave an update on the quarterback's recruitment while speaking on the recruiting show “The Inside Scoop.” He made it known that the Colorado coaching staff wants to ensure an exhilarating spring game to lure Julian Lewis to the program.
“Deion Sanders and his coaching staff are trying to get him on campus for the spring game,” Wiltfong said. They are hoping for an electric event in Boulder. He's already taken two visits to Colorado this calendar year.”
When Julian Lewis spoke in favor of Deion Sanders and Colorado
While he's given USC his verbal commitment, Colorado is fast becoming an attractive option for Julian Lewis. Steve Wiltfong reports that the quarterback’s family has fallen in love with the Buffaloes offense, which offers him the opportunity to become a starter right from his freshman season.
“The family likes what they've heard and seen from coach Shurmur,” Wiltfong said. "They made it to a spring practice and thought the offense was fast and explosive. And it's an opportunity for him to come in and play right away as a true freshman. That's also what makes Colorado exciting.”
Lewis spoke about the opportunity to play early in college football following his last season visit to Boulder. With Shedeur Sanders set to leave for the NFL following his senior season, there's obviously a golden chance in front of the quarterback.
“Colorado has a lot of energy,” Lewis told 247Sports. “Coach Prime is super positive and motivating. Talking to coach (Pat) Shurmur and Shedeur (Sanders), they want me to make the best decision for me, but made it clear that I have the opportunity to play early.
The competition for his commitment
There’s still a lot of competition in the recruitment of Julian Lewis, despite his commitment to USC. Steve Wiltfong reports that it will be a battle for Colorado to get the player.
“They're certainly in the middle of a battle,” Wilfong said. “He's obviously been committed to USC since last fall, visited USC a few weeks ago but it's still going to be a challenge for the Trojans to hang out there.”
Aside from Colorado, a number of schools still circle the quarterback. These include Auburn, Georgia and Alabama, which all maintain interest in him. He also has offers from top programs like Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida State and a lot more.
