Before joining the Colorado Buffaloes, Deion Sanders helped change the landscape for Jackson State in the HBCU scene. During his two-season stint with the program as the head coach, he led them to back-to-back SWAC championships while securing a 27-6 overall record.
Following in his footsteps, former NFL stars Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson are also taking strides in their coaching careers by becoming head coaches of HBCU teams. Vick joined Norfolk State for the upcoming season, whereas DeSean Jackson has taken over as the head coach of the Delaware State Hornets.
On Wednesday, Deion Sanders posted a clip on social media from his interview with ABC. He was asked if he inspired these former Black athletes to follow in his footsteps and help HBCU teams take the spotlight. Coach Prime replied by talking about how Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson are great individuals and how he wants them to succeed as he did with Jackson State.

"I feel like I'm blessed to be a blessing," Coach Prime said. "And those guys you just mentioned, I've reached out to them and I want them to succeed immensely. So all the wrongs, all the rights, everything that I could give them and all the direction and guidance, I'm there for them."
"They are like my little brothers and I love it. I love that they are getting opportunitites. Because we never got these type of opportunities. We comprised like I think 75-80% of the team, but then we can't coach? That don't make any sense to me."
After his tenure with Jackson State, Deion Sanders took over as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes last season. In his debut campaign, he put up a 4-8 season.
However, this year in the Big 12, Deion Sanders helped the Buffs put up a winning campaign and qualify for the Bowl games for the first time since the 2020 season. Unfortunately, they could not end the season with a Bowl game victory as they lost to BYU in the Alamo Bowl showdown with a 36-14 final score.
Deion Sanders shares some words of motivation for DeSean Jackson as he becomes HC of Delaware State
Delaware State has been a struggling program for the past few seasons in the MEAC. The last time they posted a winning campaign was back in 2012. Now, with the hiring of DeSean Jackson as the head coach, the program is looking to change its fortune this upcoming season.
Deion Sanders has come forward to give his utmost support to Jackson as he embarks on this new journey. He shared a post on social media urging his fans to back the former NFL star so that he can help Delaware State rise from its slump and return to its former glory.
"We've got to wrap our rams around this game changer and give him all the support he needs to become a successful college football coach. He knows the game, knows what it takes to make it to the next level and he knows right from wrong. @DeSeanJackson10 Love ya Man!," Coach Prime wrote.
DeSean Jackson enjoyed quite the success during his professional journey as a player in the NFL. He has three Pro Bowls and second-team All-Pro honors to his name. Jackson will now try to utilize this experience and guide Delaware State to glory in the MEAC Conference.
