Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders is known for his strong belief in God and investing in the power of faith. Apart from coaching college football, Coach Prime teaches his players to keep their beliefs strong and have confidence in the power of faith.
While he was at Jackson State, Coach Prime took part in an interview in 2022. In the interview, he gave an eye-opening speech on how people should put their faith in God almighty and how far it can take you in your journey. He also dissected the influence of role models and how it should be someone you share a close bond with.
Deion Sanders also talked about how his mother was his role model, who helped him realize his dreams and become the successful person that he is today.
"Jesus," Coach Prime replied when questioned about who should athletes watch out for as role models. "Often times, you got to understand those things that you see, those things that you clap for, those things that you cheer for, those things that you idolize, they're not role models. They are models playing a role."
"Could you imagine if the world got an opportunity to see you at your best for two hours a day? How your profile would just be enhanced?...... But what happens to the other 22? See that's where the problems occur. That's where the trappings of life occur."
"I would advise you to be that role model for your child, for your friend, for your homies, for that person that looks up to you and looks out for you. You need to be that person. Your role model should be somebody you can touch. My mama was my role model man.....my mother even when I made she never asked for mink coats and gold chains and diamonds....she just wanted what was best for me," (1:50 onwards)
During his professional NFL career, Deion Sanders won two Super Bowl championships. After retirement, he began his collegiate coaching journey with Jackson State in 2020. After leading them to two consecutive SWAC championships in 2021 and 2022, he then joined the Colorado Buffaloes ahead of last season.
CFB analyst Paul Finebaum backtracks on harsh criticism of Deion Sanders
College football fans know Paul Finebaum has been a harsh critic of Deion Sanders. However, after the Buffs managed to secure a three-game winning streak following their victory over UCF, Finebaum has come forward to rectify his criticism.
During an appearance on "First Take" on Tuesday, Paul Finebaum stated that the Buffs finally look like a 'legitimate football team'. He also said that they successfully defeated a 'good team' which makes them an underdog to watch out for this season.
"This is where I say to you that I should have kept my mouth shut a couple weeks ago. But I came after you, I came after Prime. And here I am scraping the egg off my face," Finebaum said (per 247Sports). "What happened last week in Florida was really the first time I think since Prime has been at Colorado that this looked like a legitimate football team."
"They didn't beat a great team, but they beat a good team....if they can continue on this path- I'm not saying qualifiers, I'm just saying if- then Stephen A., I think your story about Coach of the Year is dead on."
Deion Sanders and the Buffs will next face Kansas State in week 7. It will be interesting to see if they can continue this winning momentum ahead.
