Nick Saban leaves Kalen DeBoer in splits with hilarious take on Alabama players' mindset during his time

Nick Saban is an Alabama Crimson Tide legend. He led the program to six national championships and was known for his no-nonsense approach on and off the field. Ahead of Alabama's Week 5 showdown against the Georgia Bulldogs, Nick Saban met with current 'Bama coach Kalen DeBoer alongside College GameDay's team in Tuscaloosa.

Kalen DeBoer spoke about his introduction to the dressing room:

"Yeah, I knew that coming in that Friday night with those guys, I knew who'd be dead quiet them, having a lot of questions, there was a lot of emotions and things that they were going through. And it was just to try to meet them where they were at the time, you know, just really try to again, use the word embrace a lot but that's really what it was all about."

Nick Saban replied with his trademark dry sense of humor:

"But the real advantage you had was that they were really tired of my a**."

Saban's response incited laughter from DeBoer and the rest of the College GameDay crew.

Nick Saban ended his 17-year stint with the Crimson Tide in January 2024

Nick Saban released a statement in January 2024 announcing his retirement from coaching. Saban said:

"The University of Alabama has been a very special place to Terry and me. We have enjoyed every single minute of our 17 years being the head coach at the University of Alabama, as well as becoming a part of the Tuscaloosa community. It isn't just about how many matches we won and lost, but it is about the legacy and how we went about it.

"We always tried to do things the right way. The goal was always to guide players in creating more value for their future, being the best player they could be, and being more successful in life because they were part of the university. Hopefully, we've done that, and we will always consider Alabama our home."

Saban spent 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide, winning 201 games, nine SEC championships and six national titles. Under Saban, 44 players were selected in the first round of the NFL draft, the most of any coach in the common draft era.

How has Kalen DeBoer performed as 'Bama's coach?

Kalen DeBoer joined the Crimson Tide after leading the Washington Huskies to last season's national championship game, where his side narrowly lost to the Michigan Wolverines. DeBoer came highly recommended due to his fluid style of play and tactical genius.

So far, he has led the Crimson Tide to a 3-0 start in 2024. Kalen DeBoer's next game is against the Georgia Bulldogs, and it'll be a great test to see just how far he's taken the side since he took over the reins.
