Quinn Ewers has been in the limelight for No. 4 Texas ahead of its important College Football Playoff semifinal clash against No. 6 Ohio State on Friday. The quarterback has had a mixed season but is now only two wins away from writing his name into Texas lore.
Ahead of Texas' clash against the No. 6 Buckeyes, former New England Patriots long-snapper Trevor Matich offered some advice on how Ewers should approach the game.
"Against Arizona State, he came out slinging it early and often down the field," Matich said on ESPN's SportsCenter on Monday (Timestamp: 0:21). "He'll need to do that against OSU, because they will not bully Ohio State's defense with the running game up and down the field. They'll need to do it vertically, and Ewers did it brilliantly against ASU."
Ewers completed 20 of 30 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in Texas' 39-31 double-overtime win over Arizona State in the Peach Bowl. The Longhorns quarterback is likely to face a tougher challenge when he faces the Buckeyes in the CFP semifinal.
This season, Ewers has racked up 3,189 yards and 29 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He has also rushed for two touchdowns across 13 games.
Quinn Ewers gets $6 million offer from unnamed school to enter transfer portal
Although Quinn Ewers will be focused on Texas' CFP semifinal clash against Ohio State on Friday, he will soon need to sort out his future. According to a report, the quarterback was offered $6 million to enter the transfer portal after his current season with the Longhorns.
Since Texas is expected to give Arch Manning the QB1 role next season, Ewers' future has come under speculation. While Ewers still has a lucrative offer on the table to return to collegiate football next season, he also has the opportunity to enter the 2025 NFL draft.
