Former national championship-winning head coach Urban Meyer made a bold take ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinal. Meyer, an analyst for FOX, said this year's semifinals show the SEC dominance is over in college football.

“The question is, is the SEC’s dominance over? It is. It’s over,” Meyer said in Saturday’s The Triple Option podcast, via On3. “Now next year’s another year. But for (at least the last) two years, it’s over... The reality is, let’s go back to the visual eye test to what happened (between Georgia and Notre Dame), and the (question is) ‘Is the SEC run over?’"
"It is. And you can simply watch it (in the game Thursday). Next year’s a different year, but … for 2023 and 2024, (SEC teams were) non-factors. You’ve got Texas in it right now, but are we really calling Texas a blueblood of the SEC in its first year? And they’re an underdog against Ohio State," Meyer added.

After Meyer's comments, fans took to social media to blast the former coach.

"This is a terrible take," a fan wrote.
"This dude is OVER," a fan added.

Fans think the SEC is still a premier conference in college football, regardless of what Meyer thinks.

"I declared your coaching career over when you blew it at Florida, absolutely no discipline," a fan added.
"Urban Meyer talks too much," a fan wrote.

It's clear college football fans don't agree with Meyer and his take that the SEC's dominance is over.

"This man faked a heart attack to escape the SEC," a fan wrote.
"SEC’s dominance has been replaced by the NIL. This will benefit schools with deep pockets like Bama (for now), Georgia and Texas," a fan added.

Meyer coached Florida from 2005 until 2010 and won two national championships. He then went to Ohio State from 2012 until 2018 winning another national championship with the Buckeyes in 2014.

Urban Meyer explains why SEC's dominance ended

Urban Meyer was part of the SEC during its heyday but he has a few reasons why the dominance is over.

The coach believes NIL has made college football an equal playing field. As well, he says the Big Ten expansion and conference realignment have also hurt the SEC.

“I think what’s happened is there’s been some additions – obviously Oregon, Washington, UCLA and USC – but also people have really committed in the Big Ten. The upper echelon Big Ten Conference schools have really jumped on recruiting, you saw the Wolverines last year were one of the most dominant programs of the last decade,” Meyer said.
“The Buckeyes have the best roster, I don’t think it’s close, in college football. Penn State that’s really put together a hell of a team. And then you have Illinois beating South Carolina, think about that. … There’s a good argument now (for the Big Ten).”

The Big Ten's Michigan won the national title last year and if Ohio State beats Texas in the semifinals, the SEC will go back-to-back years without a national championship.
