The fight for this year's Heisman Trophy is seen as being between the Colorado Buffaloes's Travis Hunter and the Boise State Broncos's Ashton Jeanty. Both men have had remarkable seasons and are considered the best wide receiver and running back this year.
This battle for the Heisman Trophy has created an unofficial feud between the two players. Each has many passionate fans who believe their player should win the trophy.
On Wednesday, PFF uploaded a post praising Travis Hunter on social media.
But, in the comment session, numerous people praised Ashton Jeanty instead.
"Yeah but Ashton Jeanty should win. There has not been a RB like him in ages," said this fan.
"This is hilarious 🤣🤣," said another fan.
"The most controversial heisman ever because it turned into a popularity contest. Jeanty should win 10/10 times," said a third fan.
Hunter still has his fans, but (at least in the comment section of this social media post) they are in a small minority.
"Most snaps ever played. Congrats!" said this fan.
"People hate on this kid because of his coach. INSANE," said another fan.
Can Ashton Jeanty win the Heisman Trophy?
The Boise State Broncos's Ashton Jeanty is seen by many as the deserving winner of this year's Heisman Trophy. This year has been a standout year for the running back.
Jeanty has recorded 2,288 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on 312 carries. He was the main reason the Broncos had such a good season (11-1, 7-0 MW conference) and made the Mountain West Championship game.
Boise State will be the highest-ranked Group of Five program in the College Football Playoff if they win this game. If the results are favorable, the Broncos could receive an automatic bye into the semi-finals.
In contrast, Travis Hunter's season is already over. While he helped massively improve the Colorado Buffaloes compared to previous years, it was not enough to keep Deion Sanders's side in contention for the Big 12 Championship game and the CFP.
Additionally, Hunter could only be seen as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy due to the media attention and exposure the wide receiver and the Buffaloes program have been getting under Coach Sanders.
Without it (and the almost constant media coverage), Hunter would be seen as a contender and a strong two-way player but could be seen as an outsider compared to Jeanty and Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
However, this is not the case, and there is a real possibility that Travis Hunter could win the Heisman Trophy.
