ESPN's Sam Acho has a very interesting take on what will make the performance of Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders, and the rest of the Colorado Buffaloes special in the Alamo Bowl this Saturday night. According to the former NFL linebacker, it's the connection they all share with Deion Sanders that will make them play their best against the BYU Cougars at the Alamodome.
Here's what he said during one of ESPN's College Football Halftime Reports today:
"For some of them, it's their actual father, their Dad. Shilo and Shedeur getting a chance to play for their Dad. Even Travis Hunter, Coach Prime has been somewhat of a father figure to him. From Jackson State all the way to Colorado," Acho said.
"For me this is more about the integrity of the game. It's us together, one last ride... Travis Hunter will play a lot and will play hard."
This is in tune with what Deion Sanders and his players have said about the Alamo Bowl since the end of the regular season. For them, this game is a special one, and they would spare no expense to win it. Hence the unexpected decision from the stars of the team not to opt out of the game.
This is also the school's first postseason game in four years, and that they have their best shot at a bowl victory since 2004.
Deion Sanders believes that Travis Hunter will 'trigger' him as they enter the field tonight
The game tonight will be an emotional one for Coach Prime, and he admitted as much to the press earlier in their preparations. Deion Sanders opened up on how he will likely feel as they enter the field today in San Antonio. He also stated that he expects Travis Hunter to toy with his feelings:
"It’s gonna be something to behold, I don’t know how I’m gonna handle it. I know Travis is gonna trigger me. I know it because he always does, and he’s gonna bring tears out of my eyes. But I don’t look forward to it. But I do, because that means they’re going to another level, another chapter of life. And they’re gonna soar."
As the game has drawn nearer, the Colorado Buffaloes have closed the gap on their underdog status. Having started as five-point underdogs, they're now 2.5 underdogs. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. ET and it will air on ABC.
