College football fans were annoyed after the Oregon Ducks landed Isaiah World, one of the top-ranked offensive tackles, in the transfer portal. World has one year left of eligibility.
World is the second-ranked offensive tackle in the portal, according to On3. He will be a big boost to the Ducks' offensive line. Following the announcement, fans were annoyed that Nike CEO Phil Knight, who has a net worth of $34.8 billion, according to Forbes, is able to buy so many players.
"How much money do they have ????," a fan wrote.
"This is kinda getting ridiculous," a fan added.
Knight is a known booster for Oregon who is dishing out plenty of money so the Ducks can build the best possible football team.
"Oregon has a 25 million dollar roster lol," a fan added.
"Lanning ain’t recruiting, he’s buying," a fan wrote.
Fans are annoyed that players are being bought as there isn't much recruiting going on in college football anymore.
"Oregon got that moneyyy," a fan added.
"I mean Phil Knight is essentially GM so it makes sense. All that NIL money," a fan added.
Oregon recruit says Phil Knight played a big role
Phil Knight has been a key part of the Oregon Ducks' NIL collective.
The Nike CEO has talked to potential transfers and high school recruits as five-star cornerback Na'eem Offord says Knight played a role in his commitment to Oregon.
"He played a big role, like a huge, big role," Offord told CBS Sports of Phil Knight. "He's actually waiting on me to get up there, he's got a lot of stuff planned for me. He's gonna help me make my shoe.
"NIL is cool but anybody is gonna want endorsements," Offord added. "I'm gonna need endorsements all around and I feel like Phil Knight will help me with it. He can play a big role and help me with endorsements and marketing."
Oregon is ranked third in the class of 2025. The Ducks have landed three five-star recruits and 17 four-star recruits, according to 247Sports.
