On Thursday's edition of the "Pat McAfee Show," ESPN unveiled its new theme song for the 2024 college football season, called "Get By" and performed by rapper Jelly Roll. McAfee, with Roll as a guest, revealed the anthem track and showed a clip sent by the media outlet, which surprised even the artist himself.
"'Get By' is a song that will be the song and the theme of college football," McAfee said. "ESPN sent us a college football reel with the song on it, this the debut ladies and gentleman."
However, many fans are unimpressed with the song, with one stating:
"Jelly Roll has came so far, it's wild. But this song ain't it."
"CFB glory days are over sadly," another fan added.
"This was the best they could come up with?" An underwhelmed fan commented.
A barrage of similar comments kept flooding in:
Some fans suggested other songs:
"Out of all of the great songs from AC/DC, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Alice in Chains, The Who, Van Halen, Kiss, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Pearl Jam, and many more… y’all chose this?" A fan said.
"It’s great but Post Malone’s Something Real is better🔥," another fan chimed in.
With this piece, Roll joins an exclusive group of singers who have worked with the network on college football theme songs. Other artists include Post Malone, Fall Out Boy, Lauren Alaina, X Ambassadors, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Imagine Dragons, Judah & the Lion, Juice WRLD & Marshmello, DJ Snake & Rick Ross and Yungblud.
ESPN adds Steve Addazio to its roster of analysts
Another important piece of news this week by the media outlet was the hiring of former Temple, Colorado State and Boston College coach Steve Addazio as a college football analyst.
“I’m honored to join ESPN and share my love for college football with viewers across the country," Addazio said. "I’m eager to utilize my coaching experience in a new way and bring my perspective and passion to the commentary booth.” [H/T ESPN]
Addazio will be in the booth from Week 1 of the upcoming college football season. He will be alongside play-by-play commentator Clay Matvick. The rest of the commentary lineup for the season hasn't yet been revealed.
