It has been a hard week for former Michigan Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh. This week, the NCAA's draft report for the sign stealing scandal came out in which Harbaugh was named.

He was also suspended for one season for his role in a recruiting scandal. But after all of this, there appears to be some good news relating to Harbaugh.

On Friday, he was announced as an honorary captain for the Michigan Wolverines' season opener against the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Here is how college football fans reacted to this news on social media. These fans were surprised by the news.

"This is wild 🤣😭," wrote this fan.
"Bro WHAT???😂" wrote another fan.

These fans are also surprised that Harbaugh will be there, since he has been suspended from all college football activities (however this will only be applied if Harbaugh returns to coaching).

"Thought he was suspended?" wrote this fan.
"Is this legal?" asked another fan.
"I thought he was banned..." wrote a third fan.
"But he has a 4 year suspension!!!!" said this fan.

These fans are thinking that this whole situation will end badly for Harbaugh.

"This is gonna be a trap situation and I hope Harbaugh doesn't fall for it," wrote this fan.
"Well, the NCAA or whatever heard he was going to serve as an honorary captain for Michigan’s season opener, so they set up a trap for him. This whole game is a trap," wrote another fan.
"How? The FBI is going to arrest him as soon as he shows up," wrote a third fan.

Finally, these fans believe that Michigan is doing this to annoy the NCAA.

"Another middle finger to the NCAA. love it 〽️ Go Blue," wrote this fan.
"Interesting strategy to openly taunt the NCAA while they consider sanctions for the worst cheating scandal in recent sports memory," wrote another fan.
"Bro is just trolling now😂," wrote a third fan.

Why is Jim Harbaugh's return controversial?

Jim Harbaugh was in charge of the Michigan Wolverines for nearly 10 years. During that time, he had led them to numerous appearances in the College Football Playoffs.

His reign culminated in their perfect 2023 season, where they won the National Championship. It is only logical that Harbaugh should be honored for his success

However, 2023 is the season where the scandals come from, and Harbaugh will face the consequences for them.

He has already been suspended for one season for his role in the Michigan recruitment scandal that plagued the team at the beginning of the season.

However, this suspension is currently not in effect. It will only come into effect if and when Jim Harbaugh leaves his current role as coach of the Los Angeles Chargers and returns to the college game.

He has still not faced any punishment for his alleged role in the sign-stealing scandal, but this could happen soon.
