Quinn Ewers and his Texas Longhorns are playing the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Peach Bowl in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal game on Wednesday. And Ewers, the Longhorns' starting quarterback, has had his struggles in the crucial game.
This has led to Texas fans on social media echoing a sentiment that they have felt for many games since Ewers returned from injury in early October: Backup Arch Manning should be put into the game to replace Ewers.
"Arch Manning time. Ewers is going to get $6Mil+ next year on the transfer. Time for the future to start today!" a fan wrote.
"Time for Arch Manning. Ewers thinking about that transfer money," another fan posted.
"Arch Manning time," a fan commented.
These fans have taken to social media to trash Quinn Ewers for his play. This only intensified during the third quarter, when a Ewers mistake led to Arizona State scoring a safety.
"quinn ewers is horrible, he under threw two TDs and i have only watch half the game," a fan wrote.
"Quinn Ewers remains the most overrated QB in the P4," another fan wrote.
"I’ve never been more confident in anything than the opinion that Quinn Ewers would be a horrific NFL QB," a fan posted.
"Texas should be up 24 rn but Quinn Ewers decided he wanted to sell today," a fan commented.
Should Quinn Ewers be benched?
Quinn Ewers has struggled in the Peach Bowl. This has been a repeating story for the Longhorns this year, but UT coach Steve Sarkisian has not made any changes to the starting quarterback role.
To make things worse for the Longhorns, the fans know what the alternative to Ewers is like. Arch Manning may be the backup quarterback, but he was the starting quarterback for a few games this season when Ewers was injured. The moment he was healthy, Quinn returned as QB1, leaving Manning on the bench, only making sporadic appearances.
The fourth quarter of the Peach Bowl could be the perfect opportunity for Manning to come into this game. Texas, leading 17-8 as the final quarter began, would be able to rejuvenate its offense and give Manning some vital experience. This could be a win-win for both team and player.
