Deion Sanders addressed swirling NFL rumors on Wednesday's "Good Morning America," offering a candid view of his future plans.
The Colorado coach made one thing clear: he'd only consider NFL coaching if it meant working with both his sons, Shedeur and Shilo.
“You know what? The only way I would consider (the NFL) is to coach my sons,” Sanders said.
The revelation comes after Sanders had called out speculation about his sons' NFL futures. In December, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to address what he called "idiots" spreading rumors about where he wanted Shedeur and Shilo to play:
“It will be multiple IDIOTS that will say things that totally aren’t true regarding where I would like @ShedeurSanders & @ShiloSanders to play in the @nfl.
“If I say it, I will say it directly to whom it may concern not a attention seeker,” Sanders wrote, noting his direct relationship with the NFL commissioner.
"I do know @nflcommish personally! [Mic] drop. They’ve already started the lying and positioning, but they forgot I got TIME TODAY.”
Shedeur's projected high draft status – likely within the first three picks – makes the possibility of his father coaching him in the NFL unlikely. While the Las Vegas Raiders, partly owned by Tom Brady, have shown interest in Shedeur, Shilo's draft prospects remain less clear.
Despite the NFL buzz, Deion Sanders expressed deep appreciation for his current role.
“I love Colorado. Now, I love my Buffaloes. I love everything that we’re building,” he said. “I love everything that we’re doing, and I love Boulder, Colorado. I do.”
Deion Sanders appeared on GMA3 to promote the new season of "Coach Prime," the documentary series that follows his journey coaching his sons Shedeur and Shilo at Colorado.
Deion Sanders has transformed Colorado football
Deion Sanders transformed Colorado football in his first season, leading the Buffaloes to a 4-8 record in 2023 as they returned to the Big 12 conference. He built on his previous success at Jackson State, where he compiled a stellar 27-6 record and won two SWAC championships before heading to Boulder.
Sanders, a member of both the College Football and Pro Football Halls of Fame, has brought his signature energy and winning mindset to Colorado. While his son Shedeur Sanders led the offense alongside two-way star Travis Hunter, Coach Prime is already building for the future.
He has secured commitments from promising quarterbacks, including five-star prospect Julian Lewis for 2025, looking to continue Colorado's resurgence well beyond the 2024 season.
Despite media speculation about potential NFL coaching opportunities, Sanders appears focused on his long-term vision for rebuilding the Buffaloes program.
