Carson Beck's declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, but ESPN’s Todd McShay doesn’t agree with his decision. The Georgia Bulldogs quarterback threw for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2024. He made the announcement despite undergoing surgery for an elbow injury that sidelined him late in the season.
He is ranked as the #15 quarterback and boasts 80.9 QBR, which ranks him 10th in the nation. However, McShay believes his draft timing is off. Calling the move “foolish,” he said:
"I texted a bunch of guys in the league, GMs, former GMs, scouts. One scout wrote back to me, one word answer — ‘foolish.’ I thought he got better late in the season, as I said, but I don’t think he’s there yet."
McShay also echoed NFL scouts’ concerns in a second tweet:
“As a Day 2 pick, Beck’s rookie contract will earn him around $2 million next year. I have to guess he would make as much or more returning to Athens in '25, right?”
Critics argue that another season in college could have allowed Beck to refine his game and erase doubts about his post-injury capabilities. Beck’s injury and inconsistent play during the 2024 season could be a hinderance from NFL teams drafting him.
However, the quarterback aims to quiet his doubters, as he’s expected to start throwing again this spring. He’s got ample time for pre-draft workouts and get ready for the NFL.
Carson Beck landing spots ft. 2025 NFL Draft
Beck is one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound signal-caller boasts 7,912 career passing yards, 58 touchdowns and a Second-Team All-SEC nod in 2023. Despite an elbow injury that cut his 2024 season short, his NFL potential has analysts buzzing.
The New York Giants are a prime contender for Beck. They have the first overall pick and a desperate need for a quarterback. Beck’s Eli Manning-esque skill set could be their ticket back to relevancy. However, if Beck’s draft stock slips due to his injury, the Giants could strategize and snag him on Day 2 and address other roster needs early.
Another potential suitor is the Tennessee Titans. The team is struggling to find consistency under center, so the Titans could build their offense around Beck. The Titans coach can pair him with wide receiver Calvin Ridley and running back Tony Pollard, bringing stability to Tennessee’s quarterback woes.
The New Orleans Saints are another team in flux. Derek Carr’s contract offers a potential out, and Carson Beck could be groomed as their future franchise quarterback.
