After just one season at Syracuse, Kyle McCord has declared for the 2025 NFL draft. McCord, who led the nation in passing yards during the 2024 season and broke the Atlantic Coast Conference single-season passing record, announced his decision Friday.

“As I continue my journey forward, I am officially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft,” McCord wrote in a farewell message on social media. “This has been my lifelong dream, and I’m incredibly blessed to be able to go chase it. I’ll forever bleed orange.”

The former Ohio State quarterback’s decision has sparked significant reactions among college football fans. After a stellar 2024 season with the Orange, many believe McCord has the tools to succeed at the next level.

One fan said he could become the next Tom Brady.

"Tom Brady 2.0," the fan said.

"Don’t be surprised if a better pick than the other 2 main qb prospects," another fan wrote.
"He's got a lot of talent. Had a stinker game (vs Pitt) mixed in, but otherwise, great season. Good luck to him," a fan commented.
"Best of luck to him. Had a great year at @CuseFootball," another fan commented.

Kyle McCord explains why he is entering the draft

Before making his draft decision, Kyle McCord reached out to the necessary parties. His impressive statistical output, leadership and ability to perform under pressure helped solidify his standing among NFL evaluators.

“I think the biggest thing for me was, obviously, I felt like I put together a really good year,” McCord told ESPN. “With the way everything played itself out and what I'm hearing in terms of feedback at the draft, it just makes sense to go, after weighing all the options out.”

In 2024, McCord threw for 4,779 yards, cementing his place in ACC history. His performance helped Syracuse secure its first 10-win season since 2018. He also finished fourth nationally with 34 touchdown passes, showcasing his precision and playmaking ability.

Kyle McCord learned a lot from the adversity at Ohio State

Kyler McCord faced criticism after throwing a game-ending interception in the loss against Michigan to end the 2023 season. The setback brought intense scrutiny in Columbus. As he transitions to the next level, McCord reflects on the lessons learned at Ohio State.

“I think I learned a lot about myself throughout the process," McCord said, "and it was really the first time I faced a big moment of adversity having to go in the portal. It's definitely been a crazy, wild ride. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.”

The move to Syracuse has been a turning point for McCord, as he thrived under first-year head coach Fran Brown. The new environment and coaching philosophy helped him refine his game, showcasing his potential to NFL scouts.
