Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, also known as RGIII has been playing College Football 25, like many others in the College Football world. The former Baylor quarterback was completing a dynasty mode save with his alma mater when something occurred in the game that RGIII thought was too much like real life for a video game.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), RGIII wrote:
"I just went through Dynasty Mode on @EASPORTSCollege Football 25 with Baylor. Undefeated, Big 12 Champion, won the Heisman and we were still ranked lower than a Georgia team with 4 loses, and two 2 loss teams going in the College Football Playoff. This game is TOO REALISTIC."
This is very similar to what happened in last year's College Football Playoffs, where the undefeated ACC champions the Florida State Seminoles were controversially denied their spot in the playoffs to the Alabama Crimson Tide (an SEC program) that had one loss, but won the SEC championship.
An undefeated Power 4 program that had won its conference (giving it an automatic berth into the playoffs) and won the Heisman Trophy would normally be the definite number one seed in the College Football Playoffs. However, this was not the case in Griffin's save.
In this scenario, the committee preferred an SEC school that had two losses in the season to an undefeated team.
This makes the virtual College Football committees decision very strange, and it suggests that even in a video game, the SEC will always find a way to stay on top.
Could the scenario from RGIII's gameplay come true, with a two loss Georgia Bulldogs making the College Football Playoffs?
The Georgia Bulldogs are one of the favorites to win the national championship this year, and while no game has been played yet, the Bulldogs are likely to make the College Football Playoffs even if they lose one game.
This scenario (and even the one seen in RGIII's save with a two loss team making the College Football Playoffs) is likely due to the schedule that the Bulldogs face, which could cause a few problems for Kirby Smart and his team.
This sentiment is shared by College Football analyst Greg McElroy, who spoke about the Bulldogs schedule on the last edition of the "Always College Football" podcast.
"It’s a very, very difficult schedule, Extremely difficult schedule – one that I think they can navigate, but I’m not sure they’ll be able to navigate unscathed,” McElroy said. (6:41 - 6:51)
If Georgia underperforms compared to previous seasons and lose one regular season game and the SEC championship game, they are still likely to make it into the top 12 teams due to their SEC status. However, this status could mean that they rank higher than teams from smaller conferences that have not lost all season long.
