EA Sports College Football 25 has been a big success since releasing on July 19, or July 16 for those who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition to receive early access. The release marks the return of the popular franchise for the first time since NCAA Football 14, which hit the stores in 2013.
The game has reportedly generated over $500 million in sales in less than two weeks of its release. As players attempt to figure out what defense matches their personnel the best, here's a closer look at the top three formations in EA Sports College Football 25.
Top 3 defensive formations to use in EA Sports College Football 25
#1. 4-2-5
A 4-2-5 base defense is among the top choices in EA Sports College Football 25 as it allows options to look to contain the passing game, running game and run-pass options. A 4-2-5 base defense also gives players four defensive linemen, two linebackers and five defensive backs. Speed is important in the game and having five defensive backs on the field could help limit the opponent's passing game.
#2. 3-3-5
A 3-3-5 defense is an option that provides users with plenty of speed and can be used in obvious passing situations. The formation consists of three defensive linemen, three linebackers and five defensive backs. A 3-3-5 base defense also allows players to fly to the ball even faster than a 4-2-5 defense.
It does, however, leave players vulnerable to getting gashed by the running game as there is generally just one defensive tackle clogging the interior rushing lanes. Additionally, the defense could leave your personnel group slightly undersized.
#3. 4-3
A traditional 4-3 defense remains among the most useful defensive formations in EA Sports College Football 25. This formation comes into play during obvious running downs where players want to crowd the line. While a 4-4 defense may be better for pursuing the ball carrier, it leaves users far too vulnerable to a big pass play as there are only three defensive backs on the field.
A 4-3 defense, however, has four defensive backs to help prevent getting caught off guard with a play action pass or audible. Having seven players in the box allows players to attack the ball carrier while also remaining prepared for the option.
