1. Start small
One of the most fun parts of the game is grinding your way up. You can start as a coordinator, and you can start at one of the lower-tier schools. Use that opportunity to work through your growing pains with the game at a lower level. While it's college football, there's definitely going to be less pressure at Georgia Southern than at Georgia.
Building up coaching abilities is a fun and important part of the game. Sure, players can dive right in and replace Kirby Smart and Kalen DeBoer. But why not try for a little more accuracy and take a little bit of a learning curve?
2. Think about archetypes
When building a coach, you're offered a choice of 11 archetypes. Each one offers some different expertise that will help you in the game. It's probably not a surprise that the "Recruiter" archetype is popular for the slight boost in evaluation and recruiting.
More X-and-O-minded players might take the "Tactician" archetype, which can give player XP boosts and help them players working under your coach improve quickly. It's worth a few plays to try out some of the different archetypes and figure out which one can be the best fit.
3. Develop your skill tree
As you reach goals, you'll gain XP that will allow players to enhance various skills. It's another time to think about how to develop a legacy. Is it better to go all-in on a few areas and become an expert at recruiting or improving QB play, for instance. Or is it better to lay a broader foundation so that you have skills to help more areas of a team.
If you're going for the head coaching route, it makes sense to use your skills across a broad level of areas. Be good at many things rather than great at a few, so to speak. On the other hand, some may want to be an offensive coordinator guru and light up scoreboard, in which case it makes sense to take all the specific points in those areas. It's up to players.
4. Keep an eye on the carousel
The new Coaching Carousel feature adds a little bit of wild card to the offseason job hunt. Even if a player is satisfied with their position, the possibility of that holy grail job opening is too much to avoid. Keep an eye out for the vacancy that could be a career path changing move.
5. Get a few reps
Bottom line, College Football 25 is such a fun and complicated game that the only real way to experience it is... well, to experience it. Dig in. Try a few things. See how the various archetypes work, even take a dream job. Or build up a no-name program to glory. There's more than one way to have fun here. Hints are great. Playing it out on College Football 25 is even better.
