Travis Hunter is expected to enter the 2025 NFL draft. The Heisman Trophy winner is anticipated to be one of the top picks in the draft. However, there's a chance he will play one more season of college football.

According to Deion Sanders, Hunter will leverage his remaining year of eligibility in his talks with teams about playing on both sides of the field in the NFL. The Colorado coach confirmed the standout star intends to continue playing two ways on the professional stage.

“It’s going to be abundantly clear that this is what he wants,” Sanders said on “The Rich Eisen Show” (4:16 onwards).
“This is who he is, and it’s not going to work unless you entertain this and give him an assurance that this is what’s going to happen. You got to understand; Travis Hunter has another year of eligibility. So if you start the foolishness, he can do that.”

Hunter played as a wide receiver and a cornerback under Sanders across his three years at Jackson State and Colorado. He excelled on both sides and is considered among the top prospects in both positions.

Deion Sanders promises to ensure Travis Hunter plays both ways in the NFL

Deion Sanders has played a significant role in Travis Hunter's college career. He flipped him over to an HBCU program as a No. 1 prospect in his class and took him under his wing.

On “The Rich Eisen Show,” Sanders made it known that he would personally ensure Hunter plays both sides in the NFL. The coach is expected to be part of the negotiation with interested teams during the draft process in the coming months.

“He’s going to do that (play both ways), or they shouldn’t draft him,” Sanders told Eisen (timestamp 3:25). “Don’t do that. And I’m going to make sure of that. Don’t draft him if you’re not going to give him the opportunity to play on both sides of the ball. Now, you can be creative. He doesn’t have to do what we did with him here and play every snap.”

Deion Sanders himself played on both sides of the ball during his NFL career. He headlines the list of a few players who got the opportunity to do that on the professional stage, including Patrick Ricard, Mike Vrabel and Troy Brown. Travis Hunter hopes to join the list soon.
