Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter was instrumental in his team's 41-27 win against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Week 11 of college football action. Hunter registered 99 yards on nine receptions, resulting in one touchdown to complete the comeback from a 13-0 deficit.
Ahead of the Buffs' crucial clash against the Utah Utes in Week 12 of college football action, the wide receiver - who shares a close relationship with Coach Prime - pulled off a cheeky move.
Travis Hunter crashed Sander's news conference and returned a pair of LeBron Prime shoes he stole from the coach's office a few weeks ago.
How Travis Hunter's mum was instrumental in Coach Prime's decision
Before Travis Hunter joined Jackson State as part of coach Deion Sander's team, he was a five-star prospect in the class of 2021. He had committed to the Florida State Seminoles before decommitting and flipping his commitment.
During an appearance on the "Richard Sherman" podcast on Oct. 8, the Heisman-contending Hunter revealed how his mother convinced him to join Sander's team.
“My family felt comfortable first before he (Sanders) even made me feel comfortable," Hunter said. "So my mom was just like, yeah, I think this is the best deal for us to go learn for somebody that actually did it, even though my mom don't watch football, she know who Coach Prime is.
"So it was kind of crazy just how he kept his family around, like having Shedeur as his quarterback Shiloh standing around, his oldest son Bucky standing around, his daughters are standing around. It's just like, it's family oriented and that's exactly what I wanted to be and I wanted to learn from somebody like that.”
Deion Sanders often referred to Hunter as his son and included him in his family's activities, including fishing at his ranch in Texas. During a news conference, the charismatic Buffs coach revealed why he shares a close relationship with the two-way Buffs star.
“We talk about everything,” Sanders said. "He’s (Hunter) a good human being, he’s not smoking, not drinking, not outside whoring, not doing crazy things. He’s got one of the highest GPAs on the team, he’s a great human being, and he can play, his character is second to none.
"That’s why I don’t mind fishing with him (Hunter)," Sanders said. "And he coming to Texas. And we’re not talking about fishing on the boat, although we talk junk to each other all the time, but we’re talking about life."
Coach Prime stressed the importance of his players being family-oriented, and he was on hand to congratulate Travis Hunter for buying his mother her dream house a few months ago.
