Travis Hunter has played across the country during his college football career. The two-way star started off at Jackson State after Deion Sanders became the coach there and subsequently followed Coach Prime to Colorado in 2023.
In a YouTube video posted on Monday, Travis Hunter explained how seamless his transition from Jackson to Boulder was. Changing environments could sometimes be difficult for athletes, but the standout player has been pleased with his move to the centennial state.
“It was pretty fine,” Hunter said in the video. “It was easy for me, man. I was in Jackson, I moved from Georgia to Jackson, Mississippi, and I came to Colorado. It was pretty much easy for me. It gets cold in Georgia but not as cold as out here in the snow.
“I like snow, I like the different climates, the different seasons we get every season here. We get the fall, spring, summer and winter. The people always show us love. So, I'm blessed to be here and I'm blessed to have the people around us to help us out and go along with this process.”
The ease experienced in Travis Hunter's transition to Colorado can be seen in his performance on the field for the Buffaloes. The two-way star earned a Unanimous All-American honor in 2023 and he is currently a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy this season.
Deion Sanders reacts to Travis Hunter’s weekend TV appearances
During Colorado’s off week in Week 10, Travis Hunter made appearances on both ESPN’s "College GameDay" and FOX’s "Big Noon Kickoff" on Saturday. Without a doubt this was a huge boost for his Heisman Trophy campaign, with the regular season drawing closer to an end.
His appearance on the two biggest pregame shows in college football is a testament to his growing lead in the race for the coveted award. In his weekly media availability on Tuesday, Colorado coach Deion Sanders shared his thoughts on Hunter’s eventful weekend.
“I like it because that’s what everybody else has been doing,” Sanders said. “With the presidential campaign, that’s all you see. Well, it’s good enough to be working for them, it might as well work for Travis. And I think it did.
“Now he’s touted the first person, the No. 1 person in [the Heisman race]. All he has to do now is just be consistent and be Travis. That’s it. I thought it was great. I love the way he expressed himself, the way he articulated himself and his presence on television was phenomenal."
Travis Hunter has been stellar on both sides of the ball this season, recording 60 receptions for 757 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, he’s been a force, with 20 tackles, seven passes defended and two interceptions. His impressive performances have vaulted him to the top of the Heisman race.
