Travis Hunter is likely to enter the 2025 NFL draft. However, Colorado coach Deion Sanders has hinted that that two-way superstar could also return to the Buffs next year if certain NFL teams don't embrace his roles. When Coach Prime said that he would welcome the possibility of Hunter returning to Colorado in 2025, the Heisman front-runner showed his appreciation to Sanders on his Instagram story.
"I love you man. Thank you @deionsanders," Hunter wrote on his IG story while referencing Sanders' quotes about his future.
Hunter is in his junior year at Colorado. He will have one more year of college eligibility next season and could make a return to the Buffs as a senior.
Many believe that Hunter is a top draft prospect if he decides to go pro next year. However, while speaking to CBSNewsColorado reporter Romi Bean this week, Sanders suggested Hunter's future could depend on how NFL teams want to use Hunter.
"You never know how the NFL acts," Sanders remarked. "If that certain team don't want to allow him to do what he does... you never know what he may do."
Hunter plays as a cornerback and as a wideout at Colorado. However, versatile players, who can play in offense and defense for a team are rarely seen in the NFL.
This would make it interesting to see whether Hunter can handle both roles in the big league.
Travis Hunter is leading the Heisman Trophy race this season
Travis Hunter is enjoying a fabulous 2024 season with No. 23 Colorado (8-3, 6-2 Big 12) thus far, and is reportedly leading the Heisman Trophy race.
Hunter has racked up 1,036 yards and 11 touchdowns on 83 receptions as a receiver. He has also been solid on the defense with 30 tackles (19 solo tackles), nine passes defended, three interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Colorado will finish its regular season by hosting Oklahoma State on Friday. Another stellar outing against the Cowboys could seal the Heisman for Hunter.
