After back-to-back quiet performances on the offensive side of the ball in Weeks 6 and 7, Travis Hunter's Heisman Trophy case seemed to be getting cold. Against Kansas State and Arizona, Hunter logged a combined five catches for 43 yards while he dealt with a shoulder injury. This was a steep drop-off from his 9.2-catch, 112.2-yard per game averages through the Colorado Buffaloes' first five games.

Hunter rebounded in a big way in Colorado's matchup versus Cincinnati on Saturday, helping the Buffaloes to a 6-2 (4-1 Big 12 Conference) record on the back of his nine-catch, 153-yard and two-touchdown effort on the offensive side of the ball. The two-way star restored his status as a legitimate Heisman candidate after dropping out of the top three in odds following his quiet two-game stretch.

Here's a look at his updated Heisman odds after his eye-popping Week 9 performance.

Following Colorado's Week 9 win over Cincinnati, Travis Hunter shot up the Heisman odds rankings. Hunter is now second with +270, just behind Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel with +230.

In eight games this season, Travis Hunter has recorded 60 receptions for 757 yards and eight touchdowns on offense. Defensively, he has 21 tackles, seven passes defended, two interceptions and a game-winning forced fumble versus Baylor. Along with his All-American-caliber play offensively, Hunter remains arguably the best defensive back in the country.

Hunter could become the first non-quarterback Heisman Trophy winner since DeVonta Smith in 2020. The Buffaloes' star is putting together one of the most unique Heisman Trophy cases of all time.

After spending most of the season behind Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty in the Heisman odds, Hunter got some help from the leading rusher in the FBS, as Jeanty had his worst game of the season against UNLV on Saturday with only 128 yards on 33 carries.

Hunter will need to continue his high-level play offensively to remain near the top of the rankings, but that shouldn't be a problem given that Hunter has already surpassed his receiving totals from last season in just eight games.
