Travis Hunter has undoubtedly been fantastic, playing a crucial role in No. 16 Colorado's success in the Big 12 this season.
Following the conclusion of Week 12, Hunter remains in the lead for the Heisman Trophy. The Buffaloes' two-way star took the lead in the race a few weeks ago, and he maintained that after another strong performance in a 49-24 romp over Utah on Saturday.
Hunter has a -500 odds to win the Heisman, according to BetMGM, in a massive leap from the -150 he had last week. He is ahead of Ashton Jeanty (+425), Cam Ward (+1400) and Dillon Gabriel (+2200) to haul in college football's most coveted honor.
Deion Sanders has a strong message for undecided Heisman Trophy voters
After Saturday's victory over Utah, Colorado coach Deion Sanders addressed questions about his message to voters who are still unsure about Travis Hunter’s Heisman Trophy candidacy.
Sanders reaffirmed his stance on Hunter's position as the undeniable frontrunner for the prestigious award.
"I ain't gonna sit up here and give no message to Heisman voters who is undecided," Sanders said. "If they can't see, they can't see. It is what it is. I mean, Travis is who he is. It's supposed to go to the best college football player. I think that's been a wrap since, what? Week 2?
"So, we ain't petitioning for nobody. We ain't doing that. We got a wonderful display of cameras here, and I think we on national television every week. If they can't see it, something is a problem. Don't allow their hatred for me to interfere with our kids' success. They got to stop that. Y'all got to stop.”
Paul Finebaum believes Travis Hunter will win the Heisman Trophy
While the season still has a couple of weeks to go, Paul Finebaum believes the Heisman Trophy race is over. Following the performance against Utah, the analyst feels Travis Hunter will be awarded the trophy in New York in December.
“I’m very Paul-in on that,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter on Sunday. “I think it is over. I know there’s a couple of weeks left, but he, in many ways, won the Heisman before the season because we knew how talented he was. It was just a matter of clearing the rest of the field out."
The two-way star has appeared in 10 games this season.
Offensively, he’s recorded 74 receptions for 911 yards and nine touchdowns, plus an additional rushing touchdown. Defensively, he’s racked up 24 tackles, eight pass breakups, three interceptions, one tackle for loss and a forced fumble.
