Colorado star Travis Hunter shook off the negativity surrounding his relationship with Leanna Lenee to put in a dominant performance against the BYU Cougars in the Buffaloes's 14-36 Alamo Bowl loss. The Heisman Trophy winner continued to win personal accolades when he was named the Sports Illustrated Breakout Star of the Year on Monday.
The award poster was reposted on the Colorado-affiliated "Smac Entertainment" Instagram page with the caption:
"Travis Hunter is Sports Illustrated Breakout Star of the Year! ⭐️We are so proud of you! Keep up the amazing work and keep pushing the limits 📈."
Hunter's ever-supportive mother, Ferrante Edmonds, reposted the award graphic on her Instagram stories.
Travis Hunter's NFL future addressed
During a Monday interview with TMZ Sports, former Tennessee Titans star Chris Johnson expressed his opinion on Travis Hunter's future in the NFL and urged his team to draft him.
"I think we go in and see what we can do for us, bring Travis on, you get your receiver or you get to a DB, I would love him to go in and play DB and come in on certain special packages on offense to help the team out, but I think we would be absolute fools if we pass up on Travis," Johnson said via TMZ Sports.
For a long time, the two-way star has been simulated as a top three pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. In the latest USA TODAY mock draft, Hunter was mocked to be the No. 2 pick by the Cleveland Browns just ahead of his teammate, quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
"This could end up as the defining pick of the draft, as Cleveland will have to consider how eager it is to make a splashy move at quarterback with the Deshaun Watson uncertainty hanging over the franchise for at least another year," NFL editor Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz said.
"But this roster isn't particularly well-equipped to serve a rookie signal-caller, and it would be hard to go wrong with the Heisman Trophy winner, who's considered by many to be the premier talent of this class.
"Questions about how Hunter will be utilized at the next level are likely to amplify over the coming months, with much of the early feedback indicating teams could prefer the two-way star at cornerback. In whatever capacity the Browns would care to use him, Hunter would surely make a significant mark."
Both NFL and college football fans will be curious to see which position Travis Hunter will play in the NFL and, most importantly, which team will draft him in the 2025 NFL Draft.
