Fans reacted as Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter shook off a nagging shoulder injury issue to star in his team's 34-17 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats in Week 9 of college football on Saturday.
Hunter registered 153 yards on nine catches, resulting in two touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball. He also tallied four pass deflections and two tackles on the defensive side.
Hunter's performance led to the Buffs being bowl-eligible for the first time in eight years, which has reignited his Heisman Trophy race against main contender, Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty.
Colorado fans reacted as their talented two-way star had a moment with Bearcats star Xzavier Henderson where they shoved each other before finishing with a handshake. One tweeted:
"Travis you need a kidney, lung, hamstring, heart, whatever you want bro take it I got you"
Most fans hailed Hunter's aggression and talent.
"The real heisman right here," one fan tweeted.
"Can’t do nun but respect a dawg," another fan tweeted.
"I love it that competitiveness," one fan tweeted.
Tim Tebow analyses Travis Hunter's Heisman bid
Travis Hunter is providing a conundrum for the Heisman Trophy voters with his two-way status. Quarterbacks have dominated the Heisman in the past few years, but this year's race has been flipped on its head with the emergence of Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Hunter, both non-quarterbacks.
During Thursday's episode of ESPN's "Heisman Trophy Preview Show," former Florida Gators star and 2007 Heisman winner Tim Tebow evaluated Hunter's bid for the coveted trophy.
“It’s extremely difficult to evaluate,” Tebow said. “And you look at him and do you say, ‘Wow, he’s an explosive receiver?’ Or do you look at him and say he’s a shutdown DB? Do you evaluate him as just a playmaker? And I really think you’ve really got to do all three."
Tebow further broke down the case for Travis Hunter to win the Heisman based on his impact in making the Buffs competitive this season.
“But when you really look at him, you say, ‘Where would Colorado be without him?’ And they wouldn’t even be close," Tebow said. "I think that’s one of the things that we have to take into account in voting on the Heisman is where would this team be without him? And they’re not the same team.
"I think that’s where you have to give a lot of credit to this young man is the fear that he puts in an opposing offense or defense of every time he steps foot on the field, that team has hope, that team is different, that team believes because they believe in him. That’s something that we really have to evaluate.”
Travis Hunter has reignited his Heisman Trophy race with his showing against the Cincinnati Bearcats, making the Colorado Buffaloes bowl-eligible for the first time in eight years, which could only strengthen his case.
