Travis Hunter brought some serious style and sentiment to the 2024 Heisman ceremony, recreating an iconic moment from Deion Sanders’s career just hours before the ceremony.

Hunter paid tribute to his coach, in college, by recreating a moment back from Coach Prime's days as a player when Sanders had laid down his game-day gear on the floor in the right order and was clicked sitting next to his gear.

Hunter laid out his outfit—a sharp powder-blue suit paired with a white shirt and shoes—on the hotel room floor, and posed right next to it, to recreate the moment, before the Heisman bash. Coach Prime showed his pride as he shared the moment on Instagram, posting both the photos side-by-side, one from his time as a player and the other showing Travis Hunter’s setup with the caption,

“That’s right @db3_tip it’s GameTime baby! Let’s go #heisman and do the right thang! @cubuffsfootball.”

Once a star in the NFL himself, Coach Prime has helped Travis Hunter build his two-way dominance with the Colorado Buffaloes, and this was a full-circle moment for Hunter who has followed in the footsteps of one of the greatest to ever do it.

Travis Hunter takes the Heisman Trophy home

Travis Hunter had already claimed The AP Player of the Year and the Biletnikoff Award, but most importantly - he claimed the 2024 Heisman Trophy, making his place amongst the most talented players to have played the game in college. Hunter beat Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty by a razor-thin 214-point margin, which is the closest Heisman margin since 2009.

Hunter’s emotional moment came when he was announced as the winner, he collapsed into Deion Sanders’ arms and they shared a long embrace as the Heisman winner was overcome with emotion. "He’s the best player in college football," Sanders had said repeatedly leading up to the ceremony, and his support was now fully vindicated.

In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Travis Hunter paid tribute to the people who shaped his journey, especially Deion Sanders and his quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who were there with him every step of the way.

“Man, y’all changed my life forever,” he said, recalling the exact phone call that brought him to Colorado. “It’s crazy, bro. I’m trying not to get emotional... but thank you. You changed my life forever.”

Congratulating the two-way star after the announcement, Deion Sanders posted a pre-ceremony moment that the duo shared and thanked god for being good to Hunter.

"God is good! And he gave GOD THE GLORY! @db3_tip #CoachPrime @cubuffsfootball (posted by @deionsandersjr)," read the caption.

The Florida native wrapped up the season with 1,152 receiving yards, 14 touchdowns, and standout defensive stats, including four interceptions. His ability to dominate on both sides of the ball had drawn comparisons to Sanders himself. This honor makes him a top contender for the No. 1 pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
