Travis Hunter’s big night at the Heisman Trophy ceremony had a surprise twist, thanks to a special guest: rap legend Lil Wayne, who was sitting alongside Deion and Shedeur Sanders. Hunter recently discovered Lil Wayne's music, all thanks to his fiancée, Leanna Lenee.

Wayne struck a pose with Hunter and the Heisman Trophy after the Colorado star’s historic win.

In a humorous moment, the Colorado star admitted:

"Wayne, you don't know how you came into our life. My fiancée loves you," Hunter said.
"I didn't know none of your songs until she let me know because I don't listen to music. She let me know, she told me, 'You gotta listen to this. If you're going to listen to (music), listen to Wayne.'"

From that introduction, Hunter said, his playlist has been all about Lil Wayne.

"Pregame music, those are the songs I'm listening to. When I get in that TRX and I blast that music, I'm listening to Wayne."
"It's crazy. 6 Foot, 7 Foot, 8 Foot... That's my song. I respect you for coming out here and supporting me man."

Hunter thanked his fiancée, his family, Coach Deion Sanders, and, unexpectedly, Lil Wayne, crediting him as his new go-to artist.

The Heisman ceremony was a star-studded affair, featuring finalists like Hunter, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel and Miami’s Cam Ward.

Travis Hunter’s incredible versatility on the field

Travis Hunter made history as Colorado’s second Heisman Trophy winner, following Rashaan Salaam’s triumph in 1994. Hunter’s incredible versatility on the field has been the driving force behind Colorado’s resurgence this season.

As a wide receiver, he racked up 1,152 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns, showcasing his game-changing ability on offense. On defense, the cornerback contributed 32 tackles, one tackle for loss and four interceptions, proving he’s just as dominant on the other side of the ball.

During his emotional acceptance speech, Hunter reflected on his journey from starting at Jackson State to thriving at Colorado. His outstanding 2024 season also earned him the Biletnikoff and Bednarik awards, cementing his status as one of the game’s most dynamic players.

Hunter’s brilliance helped the Buffaloes stay in College Football Playoff contention before their season wraps up against BYU in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
