Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter's fiancee, Leanna Lenee has been battling a wave of criticism the past few weeks due to various incidences, but the one that has captured the public's consciousness is the viral clip from Saturday's trophy ceremony. Lenee has received backlash for apparently not getting up to embrace Hunter when he was announced as the 90th Heisman winner.
Both the Colorado Buffaloes' two-way star and Lenee have addressed the unabating discourse from the night which has seemingly almost overshadowed Hunter's win. On Wednesday, Lenee took another tangent instead, complimenting Zo Caswell, the fiancee of Heisman finalist Dillon Gabriel from the Oregon Ducks on an Instagram post.
"Heisman weekend in NYC🥂☺️ @dillongabriel I can’t express enough how proud I am of you. Going to events like this reminds me of how incredible your journey as a player and a person has been. You inspire me everyday. I am so honored to be by your side and share this life with you❤️," Caswell captioned her Instagram post.
"Obsessed!" Leanna Lenee wrote.
Travis Hunter's fiancee, Leanna Lenee, fights back
After the wave of criticism aimed her way, Leanna Lenee, who celebrated her birthday two weeks ago, addressed the Heisman incident with Travis Hunter in a TikTok clip posted on Monday.
“When his name was called, I instantly was going to get up — if you watch the video, his mom didn’t get up, so I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I don’t get up, I just sit here,’” Lenee said. “As soon as I seen Travis get up, then I thought it was appropriate to stand up, greet him, congratulate him.
"But then, there was a camera right in front of Coach Prime, and I knew they were going to film that moment and because of how people are online, I was like, 'I don’t want to be in that shot.' So, I sat down."
She also addressed the clip where she appeared to be upset with the Heisman-winning Hunter taking pictures with fans at an Adidas pop-up event ahead of the Heisman ceremony in New York.
“People are saying that I’m like, ‘What am I supposed to do? Just sit here?’” she said. “That’s not what I said, first of all.
“I said, ‘Do you want me to sit here? Or do you want me to go with the family? Or do you want me to come with you?’ Because, again, what y’all don’t know off of a seven-second clip is those weren’t fans, by the way. He had already finished that part."
After a hectic weekend of a barrage of criticism, Leanna Lenee has received the unconditional backing of Travis Hunter in a video he posted on his Twitch account.
