Travis Hunter capped off a historic single-season performance by taking home the 2024 Heisman Trophy. Hunter was named the winner of college football's most prestigious award on Saturday night over Ashton Jeanty, Cam Ward and Dillon Gabriel.

After hoisting the award, Hunter stepped to the podium and gave an emotional speech in which he shouted out his head coach, team and family, specifically his grandmother, Shirley Hunter.

On Tuesday, Hunter's grandmother responded to her grandson's speech while speaking with WPTV News of West Palm Beach, Florida.

"It's overwhelming for me," Shirley Hunter told reporters. "Saturday night, that was a lot. I mean, I couldn't even walk. I appreciate what he did. I'm so surprised. I love him so much. So much. That's my Tip."

Travis Hunter's emotional Heisman speech touched many. The potential No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft thanked his parents, coach, quarterback, and as previously mentioned, his grandmother.

"You're the person that got me to start playing football," Hunter said. "That means so much to me. You saw the vision before I even saw the vision. At four years old, you told me to go put on some pads, go get out in the front yard and play with (my) cousins."

Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy with 552 first-place votes, beating Ashton Jeanty with 309 first-place votes. Jeanty could break Barry Sanders' single-season rushing record in Boise State's playoff game later this month.

The Colorado star shined on offense and defense for the Buffaloes this season, separating him in the voting. Offensively, Hunter caught 92 passes for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding two carries for five yards and an additional touchdown on the ground.

Defensively, Travis Hunter recorded 32 total tackles, 11 passes defended, four interceptions and a game-winning forced fumble. In addition to the Heisman Trophy, Hunter won the Biletnikoff Award, the Bednarik Award, the Walter Camp Award and the AP Player of the Year.

He was named a first-team All-American as a cornerback and a second-team All-American as a wide receiver.
