Travis Hunter was a five-star highly sought after recruit by prestigious college football programs of FBS. What would you do? Sign with them, right? Hunter, the 2024 Heisman winner, though, did the opposite but with all the right intentions. He signed with an FCS school, which is like a AAA level baseball player going to AA.

Hunter, who received a scholarship from Florida State in Nov. 2019, committed to the program on March 3, 2020. However, abou 18 months later, he flipped his commitment to play under NFL legend Deion Sanders at Jackson State.

A video of him changing the commitment from Dec. 2021 resurfaced on social media. On signing day, Hunter, who had initially appeared in an FSU cap, threw it out and wore the cap of Jackson State thrown to him by someone from the audience, suggesting his flip from the Seminoles to the Jackson State Tigers.

A fan posted the video of the same while taking a dig at FSU who went 2-10 in 2024 as opposed to Coach Prime's Buffaloes' 9-3 season record.

CFB analyst slams critiques of 2024 Heisman winner Travis Hunter

Travis Hunter made the most surprising decision in recruiting history by becoming the first five-star prospect to sign with an HBCU or FCS school. Only one thing made sense behind his decision: he wanted to learn under a Pro Football Hall of Fame coach.

Fast forward three years, and Travis Hunter became the first two-way star since Charles Woodson in 1997 to win the Heisman Trophy.

Despite the Heisman win, some critiques still can't get over it, eliciting confusion for CFB analyst Josh Pate, who threw light on why Hunter is getting a lot of harsh takes.

"I'm hearing a lot of, 'Oh man, he only got it because of the Deion effect.' False. Can I offer an alternative point of view? You're only worked up because of the Deion effect," Pate said in the video.
"If Hunter had stayed committed to FSU and done this for Mike Norvell's Seminoles this year — if he had played both ways and excelled at a high level on both sides — I don’t think we’d see a fraction of the pushback we're seeing now. The difference is that he did it for Deion at Colorado," Pate added.

Travis Hunter is likely to suit up in the Alamo Bowl game against the BYU Cougars on Dec. 28. This will be the last chance for college football fans to enjoy watching him before he gets picked by an NFL team in next year's draft.
