Travis Hunter is one of the most popular figures in all of college sports. His ability to perform as a high-level athlete on both sides of the football draws people to their televisions.
The No. 21-ranked Colorado Buffaloes as a whole have performed much better than they did last year on all fronts, not just Hunter. They will take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders this week for an opportunity to advance to 7-2 and keep their hopes for a chance at the Big 12 title alive.
On Shedeur Sanders' "2 Legendary" podcast, he asked Hunter about his mentality and approach for this week's matchup.
"Like always, go 1-0," Travis Hunter said. "We know we gotta win out. So, it's definitely gonna be a different type of energy at practice, different type of energy this whole week." [30:50]
The Buffaloes have a tough hill to climb. The No. 9-ranked BYU Cougars currently have a stronghold on the Big 12 at 8-0 and are in a good position to grab the Big 12 winner bye in the bracket. They possess one of the most dominant offenses in college football, putting up 34 or more points in seven of their eight games.
Barring a late collapse, it's the Cougars' conference to lose. They also have the roadblock of the No. 17-ranked Iowa State Cyclones, who are 7-1.
Travis Hunter and Colorado's push toward the tail end of the season
Colorado hasn't faced either BYU or Iowa State this year and won't have an opportunity to, meaning gaining ground with a head-to-head is off the table. But since Travis Hunter knows they have to win out anyway, the path to where they want to get is really simple: win.
"Coach Prime started it off yesterday with practice," Hunter said. "Came in with a different mindset. We gotta go out there and dominate." [31:15]
The Red Raiders are 6-3 on the year coming off an upset 23-22 win against Iowa State. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. ET.
