Travis Hunter, the Colorado Buffaloes’ standout star, has etched his name in college football history. On Thursday night, Hunter clinched the 2024 Fred Biletnikoff Award, honoring him as the nation’s top receiver, and the Chuck Bednarik Award for the best defensive player—all in one night.
This remarkable feat makes him the first player ever to win both prestigious awards in the same season. The announcement came during ESPN’s College Football Awards Show, where Hunter’s stats took center stage: 92 catches, 1,152 yards, and 14 touchdowns as a receiver, alongside 32 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 11 passes defensed on defense—all in just 12 games.
Fans were quick to celebrate their star on social media. Under an Instagram post by “Overtime SZN,” one fan wrote:
“Travis winning the Heisman confirmed.”
“It’s basically comfirmed that’s he’s gonna win the Heisman,” another fan wrote.
“Just put the Heisman in the bag,” a fan wrote.
“What a dawg,” one wrote.
“RIIIIGHT JUST GIVE HIM THE HEISMAN ALREADY BRO,” another wrote.
However, not everyone agreed. One fan voiced skepticism:
“I can name 2 DBs better than him rn and 2 receivers that’s nasty work yeah bro they on some popularity sh*t and I love Travis.”
Despite the mixed reactions, the buzz around Hunter’s extraordinary season continues to grow.
Travis Hunter has had an incredible week
Travis Hunter is stacking up some of college football's most prestigious honors. He was named the Associated Press Player of the Year and also took home the Walter Camp Award. At the College Football Awards show, Hunters’ name echoed again as he received the Walter Camp Player of the Year honor.
These accolades position him as the frontrunner for the sport’s biggest prize—the Heisman Trophy—set to be awarded Saturday night. Beyond the awards, Hunter's impact on the field has been immense. He played an extraordinary 688 snaps on defense and 672 on offense, helping the No. 20 Colorado Buffaloes (9-3) secure a spot in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28 against No. 17 BYU (10-2).
While Hunter’s efforts were celebrated, he missed out on the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation’s top defensive back, which went to Texas standout Jahdae Barron.
