Deion Sanders has led the Colorado Buffaloes for the last two years. In that time, he has taken the Buffaloes from a struggling team to their first bowl game in nearly 10 years. However, he would not be successful in this, being defeated by the BYU Cougars.

After the defeat to the Cougars, Sanders reflected on the last two years with the program. He gave a comment to the media on what these last two years taught him.

“Patience. They’ve taught me a tremendous amount of patience, and they taught me about forgiveness. There’s a lot of young men, a lot of things transpired that you guys don’t know about and aren’t privy to, but I’m a tremendous forgiving person, and I absolutely love these guys.”

When Sanders took control of this team, the Colorado Buffaloes were a perennial struggler in the PAC-12 conference. While the Buffaloes did have a good start to this tenure, defeating the TCU Horned Frogs (who had played in the national championship game in the previous season), he could not keep this up.

The Buffaloes fell to a 4-8 season, and going into 2024, little was expected from them, especially since they were now in the Big 12 Conference.

However, Sanders was able to defy all expectations. Thanks to stars Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, the Buffaloes finished the season with a 9-3 record.

They were kept in the race for the conference championship game until the final week of the season, and while they were unable to make it, this season should be seen as a success.

Deion Sanders on his team's performance vs BYU

After the defeat, Sanders also spoke about his views on the game itself.

"We're not happy with the results, but we're happy with the journey of getting here. BYU played a heck of a football game, and I'm proud of what our players accomplished this season."

The Cougars completely outplayed the Buffaloes in this game, exploiting their strong run game and a surprisingly weak Buffaloes offensive line to shut down quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Shedeur didn't have the best final game for the Buffaloes. While he did throw for two touchdowns, he also threw two interceptions.

This is something that he has only done one other time this season, and it is generally a poor performance when compared to what he has been able to do throughout the season. The impact of this performance on his draft stock is yet to be fully known, but it is unlikely to have any impact in the long run.
