The Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-2, 4-3 Big 12) pulled off a big win over the No. 11 Iowa State Cyclones (7-1, 4-1) on Saturday. Texas Tech rallied in the game's final minutes to win 23-22, catching the attention of Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders' son, Deion Sanders Jr.
On X, Sanders Jr. congratulated Texas Tech (6-2, 4-3 Big 12) for their win over Iowa State.
"Turn Up Texas Tech," wrote Sanders Jr.
The Cyclones (7-1, 4-1) were close to winning the game in front of their fans at Jack Trice Stadium. The team's defense had to hold on to prevent Texas Tech from scoring a touchdown with 2:06 remaining to be victorious. However, Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton led his team down the field until he got to Iowa State's 1-yard line.
Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks ran the ball into the end zone with 20 seconds left to put his team up by a point. After failing to get a two-point conversion, the Red Raiders' defense held off Iowa State from scoring.
How do the Colorado Buffaloes factor into Texas Tech's win over Iowa State?
This win has interesting ramifications because the Texas Tech Red Raiders will host the No. 23 Colorado Buffaloes (6-2, 4-1) on Saturday.
In addition to Iowa State losing in Week 10, the No. 17 Kansas State Wildcats (7-2, 4-2) lost 24-19 to the Houston Cougars (4-5, 3-3). Kansas State and Iowa State losing this week puts Colorado in the hunt to compete in the Big 12 championship game.
Colorado has four games left this season. The Buffaloes are favored to beat Texas Tech next week. If they can finish with a 10-2 record, they could be in a position to play in the championship game.
Colorado will also need the BYU Cougars (8-0, 5-0), Iowa State and Kansas State to lose more games to secure their spot further.
