Coach Prime and the Colorado football program have a new fan: three-time national championship winner Urban Meyer. The former Florida Gators coach weighed in on Deion Sanders’ flashy operating style at Colorado.
While Sanders and his team have made headlines for their actions off the field, Meyer has no doubts about the substance of the Colorado HC’s program. On “The Triple Option” podcast on Tuesday, Meyer revealed that he believed in Sanders' approach from the start.
“I’m not a big fan of the watches, I’m not a big fan … It’s almost uncomfortable for me seeing some of the stuff," said Meyer.
"And if I didn’t go to watch the practice and see Prime coach and see the coaching staff and the players respond, I would have sold my stock on that a long time ago.”
When Meyer visited Boulder in Sanders' first season in charge, he saw a "real, well-coached" team despite their 4-8 finish last year.
Colorado's 4-1 start this season, including a 2-0 record in Big 12 play, marks a remarkable turnaround for the program.
Colorado faces Kansas State after the open week and a win would propel Sanders' squad into even greater hype.
What lies ahead for Coach Prime in 2024 college football season?
The Pro Football Hall of Famer has turned Colorado into one of the most buzzworthy programs in college football. As the Buffaloes push through the 2024 season, the question on everyone's mind is whether the team can keep the momentum going and make a historic run to the College Football Playoff.
Coach Prime’s quarterback son, Shedeur Sanders, is leading the charge. He has thrown for over 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns.
However, the offensive line has been shaky, which is evident in Sanders getting sacked 18 times this season.
On defense, Colorado has made massive strides, jumping from 119th in the nation last year to 31st in 2024, thanks to defensive coordinator Robert Livingston. The Buffs’ defense, led by Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and Nikhai Hill-Green, has become a formidable unit capable of shutting down high-powered offenses.
